Each year we seem to have one or two students per class who become the mushroom “experts”. Their jewel tones attract certain students, those with a keen artist’s eye.

We don’t see many mushrooms on the schoolyard, but when we venture into the woods in the Fall, we have been able to spot the most spectacular specimens. Using field guides we try to identify what we see. When asked to identify a specimen, students easily rhyme off even the most complicated mushroom nomenclature.
This collection of field guides is available from MEC ... in French!
* Mushroom collecting requires guidelines. The first and only guideline being we don’t touch them! Instead, we provide iPads as a collection tool. The photos are then displayed in the class and in a mushroom field guide mini photo album we bring along with us.
